the sisters Owusu
Co-founders and real-life sisters Monday and Thursday grew up on Avril Lavigne, anime and Ghanaian folktales their parents told them when the lights went out. They spent their childhood drawing and writing stories of their own, distributing them to friends and family. But between the sketches and stories, they rarely wrote about girls like them. They wrote what they saw on television and in books.
Now they write what they want to see and want to read: books that entertain. Books that build on nostalgia and familiarity with inverted tropes and stories to breathe new life into well-loved classics. Stories without trauma and grief, but still highlight the human experience in equal measure. Welcome to the home we dreamed up in 2005 and built in 2021.

About Us
Here at Monday’s Child Publishing House, we specialize in retellings and reimaginings of classic literature, folklore, fairy tales, alternative history, and popular tropes. Funny enough, we do not actually write children’s books. Our books range from middle grade, young adult, new adult, and adult. “Monday’s Child” comes from a naming practice in Ghana where children who are born on a certain day of the week are named (for example girls born on a Thursday are called Yaa).

We are a self-described small-batch publishing house. As a small batch publisher, our mission is to focus on a select group of curated books that highlight community, change narratives, and focuses on the input of individual talents as we do not publish more than a baker’s dozen a year. (13) We plan on expanding our author/ company family for the years to come. We are excited to see what the future brings as this is just at the beginning.
